Lay sharpener on a flat surface with tip of knife blade facing away from you
Place cutting edge of knife in the carbide "V"

Always keep the cutting edge perpendicular to the table
Using light pressure , draw knife completely through the carbide in one steady motion. Repeat 3 to 4 times
